At Advanced Family Medical Care, we offer regular screenings for cancers such as breast, lung, prostate, colon, skin, cervical, and others. Many of these screenings are simple to perform and minimally invasive. In fact, the CDC recommends regular screenings for breast, cervical, colon, and lung cancers, which are shown to have better outcomes when caught early.
For breast cancer, the most effective screening is through mammograms, as well as breast exams. These can catch cancer in its earliest stages when it is easier to treat.
Cervical cancer can be screened by a pap test, which checks for abnormal cells in the cervix. When found early, cervical cancer stands a high chance of being cured.
Colon cancer, also referred to as colorectal cancer, typically develops from precancerous polyps found within the colon or rectum. The screening test can identify these polyps so they can be removed before they’re able to turn into cancer. It can also catch colon cancer in its early stages when it’s most likely to be cured.
Lung cancer screenings are performed with low-dose computed tomography (LDCT) for individuals with histories of heavy smoking or recent smoking cessation and are between 55 and 80 years old. Lung cancer screenings are recommended yearly in these cases by the U.S. Preventative Services Task Force.
